The world championship among akhaltekes, that took place on 14 -15th August at Planernaya (Moscow), has again proved the leadership of Tito Pontekorvo's stable — our fellow countryman, who is working hard in two countries these days, Russia and the USA.
As the world champions among the 1.5-year-old akhaltekes were acknowledged the mare Yetkul and the stallion Gavr, raised in Ratmino.
The mare Amada was the best in movement quality and won the Kaprilli Prize (this competition verifies horse handiness and suppleness).
The world’s top ten of akhaltekes included three “daughters” of Tito Pontekorvo’s stable: the world champion - 2003 among the 1.5-year-old horses Mulan (4th place), Arena (7th), who was the runner-up in Kaprilli Prize, and Amada (8th).
The world champion-2003 among young horses Yenchik was the third in the world’s top ten akhalteke stallions.
According to Tito Pontekorvo (he arrived from the USA to participate in the World championship), the success was not a windfall. The akhaltekes from Dubna also prevailed at the traditional horse exhibition in Saint Petersburg, which is highly appreciated by the professionals. The stallion Samarkand (he was the 9th among the world’s top ten akhaltekes in 2002) took the first prize, Karagach (was exposed for the first time) - the second. It is noticeable that Karagach’s brother, Gagur, was recognized the breed champion in 2001 and became the winner of the All-Russian horse exhibition.
All this stands for the high quality of breeding that is taking place in Tito Pontekorvo’s stable in Ratmino. Without exaggeration we can say that Dubna is turning into the home country of the best akhaltekes of the world. More information about akhaltekes you can find here: http://www.akhaltexas.com
